Established in 2003 as a joint effort of Wild Salmon Center and Ecotrust, State of the Salmon is the only non-governmental program dedicated to evaluating and conserving wild Pacific salmon across their entire range — from headwaters to the open ocean, across seven Pacific Rim nations.

Our work is founded upon a diverse network of agency, academic, conservation and public partnerships and supported by a prestigious international advisory team. Our staff brings a diverse range of science, policy, cartography, and linguistic skills to the task of sharing knowledge across borders.

Our work to catalyze innovations in Pacific salmon conservation and management is informed by a set of evolving goals and principles. We seek to:

Ecotrust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Portland, Oregon whose mission is to inspire fresh thinking that creates economic opportunity, social equity and environmental well-being. The SoS program staff are located in the Ecotrust office.

The Wild Salmon Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Portland, Oregon whose mission is to create a network of healthy salmon ecosystems across the range of wild North Pacific salmon. The SoS program staff are located in the same building as the WSC.
