This coverage includes established Protected Areas of IUCN categories I through VI at a scale of 1:1,000,000.

Purpose:
This dataset was developed for the Atlas of Pacific Salmon: The First Map-Based Status Assessment of Salmon in the North Pacific. (2005)  This dataset was created in order to improve analysis and decision processes at many levels and scales and advance the global agenda for conservation of biodiversity.
